The 2015 Ford Explorer can tackle just about any challenge on or off the road. It’s the perfect SUV for those who live in areas that receive inclement weather, those with a family, and anyone who enjoys off-road adventures.
Let’s take a look at what separates the new Ford Explorer from other SUVs.
The new Ford Explorer has a plethora of high-tech electronics that drivers will love. It has the MyFord Touch infotainment screen, a power sunroof to enjoy sunny spring days, a heated steering wheel and second-row seats, cruise control, power windows, locks, and doors, and power-adjustable pedals.
The Explorer also features active park assistance, a power lift gate, power folding seats in the third row, and push-button start. Extra entertainment features include dual USB ports, a DVD entertainment system, and satellite radio for higher-level trims.
Everyone who drives the 2015 Ford Explorer praises it for its roominess, seating up to eight passengers, plus you can fold the back seats to fit large objects. It’s the ideal SUV for families and anyone who needs to haul bigger loads.
Ford has created a new exterior color for the new Explorer called Magnetic Metallic. Buyers can opt for other exterior colors such as Metallic Black, White, and Ruby Metallic Red. The 2015 version also includes snazzy body-colored door handles.
The Explorer just might be Ford’s safest vehicle. Aside from its inherently protective large stature, it features perfect sight lines thanks to the high placement of the driver seat. Other safeguards include inflatable rear seatbelts, Bluetooth connectivity to communicate hands free, rearview cameras, blind spot detectors, adaptive cruise control, trailer sway control, and automatic headlamps. There’s even a handy MyKey system that lets parents set volume and speed limits for their teenage drivers.
The vehicle also has new Curve Control technology that operates in unison with the stability control to apply the throttle and brakes when rounding sharp turns. Prospective buyers will appreciate the fact that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has bestowed its Top Safety Pick designation on the 2015 Explorer.
This year’s Explorer comes with your choice of three engines. The standard engine is a V6 with 290 horsepower, 3.5 liters, and 255 lb-ft of torque. This engine propels the vehicle to a fuel efficiency of 17 mpg in cities and 24 on highways.
The Sport trim Explorer is equipped with a V6 EcoBoost engine with 365 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. When powered by this engine, the Explorer tows upwards of 5,000 lbs.
Buyers also have the option of choosing a turbocharged EcoBoost engine with 240 horses, 2.0 liters, and 270 lb-ft of torque. This engine powers the vehicle to hit 20 mpg in urban environments and 28 mpg on highways.
No matter which type of engine you choose, your Explorer will have a six-speed automatic transmission. However, if you would like to manually shift, you can do so with the vehicle’s Ford SelectShift technology. The new Explorer has front-wheel drive, yet buyers can opt for Ford’s four-wheel drive system that features intelligent terrain management technology.
